QS World University Rankings: how VR labs can help.
QS is a global university ranking, not an accreditation body. Even so, several QS indicators are influenced by teaching innovation, graduate employability, and sustainability - areas where immersive VR can contribute.
What QS looks at
A ranking driven by reputation, outcomes & sustainability.
QS weights Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Employment Outcomes, Faculty–Student ratio, Citations per Faculty, International metrics, and Sustainability. These are perception and outcome indicators rather than pass/fail criteria.
The mappings below are illustrative - they show where immersive VR can plausibly support QS criteria. They are not an official QS statement. Always work from the current QS criteria (linked below) and your own evidence.
| QS indicator | How iXRLabs VR labs contribute | Evidence to cite |
|---|---|---|
| Employer Reputation & Employment Outcomes | Hands-on VR practice builds job-ready, practical skills that employers value, supporting graduate employability narratives. | Graduate skills mapping; employer feedback on practical readiness. |
| Academic Reputation | Adopting an immersive, AI-tutored VR curriculum is a visible teaching-innovation signal in academic surveys and outreach. | Published teaching-innovation case studies and conference talks. |
| Sustainability | Virtual labs cut consumables, travel, and physical equipment, supporting environmental-sustainability reporting. | Reductions in consumables/equipment vs. equivalent physical labs. |
| Faculty–Student ratio (effective capacity) | VR lets a single instructor supervise more students through guided, self-paced modules with the 7thi tutor. | Lab throughput and supervision ratios before/after VR. |

Common questions
QS & VR labs.
Is QS an accreditation?
No. QS is a global university ranking based on reputation and performance indicators, not an accreditation standard. We list it because some institutions track QS indicators that teaching innovation and employability can influence; any link to VR is indirect and illustrative.
Can VR realistically move QS scores?
QS is influenced by many factors. VR can support employability, teaching-innovation reputation, and sustainability narratives, but it is one contributor among many and we make no guarantee of ranking changes.
Which QS indicators can VR influence?
Most plausibly Employer Reputation and Academic Reputation over time, via graduate readiness and teaching innovation; QS also weighs sustainability and employment outcomes that practical VR training can support.
Does VR directly raise our QS ranking?
No single tool moves a ranking. VR contributes to the underlying signals - employability, teaching quality, and internationalisation of resources - that reputation surveys reflect.
Can VR support the QS Stars teaching rating?
It can contribute evidence of innovative, technology-enhanced teaching and learning resources, which QS Stars assesses alongside your wider provision.
How does VR help graduate employability?
Students rehearse industry-relevant procedures and equipment they could not otherwise access, building job-ready skills that feed employer-reputation and outcome signals.
Is iXRLabs used by globally ranked universities?
Yes - iXRLabs is deployed at 40+ universities worldwide, including QS-ranked institutions. Reference deployments are available on request.
